ʻThe Sixth Generationʼ: Symposium on the New Wave of Chinese Cinema


Free screenings in the community: September 21st — October 7th
symposium: Friday & Saturday, October 8th & 9th @ R.I.T.
Sponsored by the Rochester Institute of Technology and the New York Council
for the Humanities

This fall, R.I.T. with the support of the New York Council for the Humanities will
be hosting a series of film screenings and a two day symposium focusing on the
new wave of independent cinema from mainland China; so called ʻSixth
Generation Filmsʼ. Four films, never before seen in Rochester, will screen for
free and to the public at the local Cinema Theater on Clinton Avenue and The
Visual Studies Workshop on University Ave. and Prince St. A group of acclaimed
writers and scholars of Chinese cinema will gather at RIT for a two day
symposium along with special guest, Zhu Wen, an acclaimed writer and
filmmaker working in Beijing, to hold public roundtable discussions of issues
surrounding new Chinese cinema. All events are free and open to the public.
